Once Mary was officially diagnosed with ALS, the family quickly came together and contacted the ALS Association of Upstate
NY to see if there was anything we could do to help with the cause. We were greeted by the very supportive and
sincere Exective Director of the organization who explained that the annual walk would take place at Delaware Park on August,
27 2006 and told us how to become a participating team.
In about 3 weeks, we organized a team of more than 20 walkers and gained support from nearly 100 donors. More
than $35,000 was raised at the Walk to D'Feet Buffalo. All proceeds went to support vital patient services
locally as well as helped fund research into an effective treatment and cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
This event was more than just a fundraiser. It allowed Mary's friends and famiy to come together and show support of
her and the fight against this diseaese. It also introduced us to other local people experiencing life with ALS.
One of the most beneficial aspects of this event was that we had a lot of fun and walked away with valuable memories that
will last a lifetime.
